Our Place-based Approach

Collaborating with Communities to Affect Change

CEO Action for Racial Equity’s place-based approach acknowledges the strengths, assets and leadership in communities, with a focus on driving change in four cities across the country.

> Detroit, Michigan
> Dallas, Texas
> Birmingham, Alabama
> Baltimore, Maryland

This approach recognizes local work being done and builds on that momentum. By working locally, we can deploy ideas and look for future insights on how we can work together.

Across these four cities, we are connecting with key stakeholders who have the network, shared vision and long history of advocacy and corporate engagement to help accelerate the impact of the Fellowship’s work on the ground — including our Fellows, their companies, and grassroots organizations who are part of our Fellowship’s Black Community Council.

After making significant progress in Oakland, we look forward to applying our place-based approach in Detroit, Dallas, Birmingham, and Baltimore.

“Closing the racial wealth gap in Dallas is key to unlocking the full potential of our city. That’s why we are focused on supporting other organizations in the community, including Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), Community Development Organizations (CDOs) and minority-owned businesses, that empower and uplift people of color, especially those who have been historically marginalized and excluded from Dallas’ economic opportunities. We also recognize that we are not the first or the only ones who care about this issue. We honor and learn from the individuals and organizations who have been doing this work longer than us, and we seek to collaborate with them in a respectful and meaningful way.”

“CEO Action for Racial Equity’s vision is to improve the quality of life for the 47M+ Black Americans through advocacy and advancement of solutions that address societal systemic racism. In our Detroit place-based team, our goal is to amplify the neighborhood revitalization efforts in Detroit.  With our community-first approach, we aim to connect community organizations with corporations that can bring capacity and skills to create lasting impact in the city.”
