Statement on the One Year Anniversary of the Death of George Floyd

May 25, 2021

Today, we pause to reflect on the impact George Floyd’s murder has had on our nation. His killing served as a reckoning for the country and mobilized Corporate America to be a part of the solution for driving systemic change. This resulted in 100+ companies coming together in October 2020 to form CEO Action for Racial Equity, with a mission to advance racial equity through public policy.

We are working to better understand the disparities and the underlying data to develop solutions that help improve the quality of life for Black Americans and society at large. We landed on an issue agenda with the potential to help transform lives — from the urban core to the rural outskirts, in boardrooms and classrooms, and in our healthcare and criminal justice systems.

One of our priority issues focuses on supporting police integrity and transparency. We’re encouraged by the bipartisan efforts in Congress to move transformational police reform forward, which would be a major step in helping fix disparities that have limited the well-being of Black Americans. Our Fellowship remains committed to helping advance policies that bring equity, transparency and accountability to our justice system.
