Our Statement on the Derek Chauvin Trial

April 20, 2021
The significance of today’s verdict for Derek Chauvin should not be lost. The sense of urgency to protect Black Americans from police violence could not be greater. Following the killing of George Floyd, we formed CEO Action for Racial Equity to address the long history of systemic racism in the US, including a focus on public safety to help Black Americans receive equal protection under the law. Our collective work in this area remains unfinished.

In order to meet this moment, our nation must enact meaningful policing reform legislation that advances accountability and transparency. Our Fellowship supports the transition from discussion to action, starting with the police reform principles outlined in our recent letter to congressional leadership. As our Fellowship’s issue agenda grows in the coming weeks, we will work to advance policies that increase public safety for all individuals, across our country.
